Kayak Flight and Hotel Search, an app from travel search engine Kayak.com, is a nice starting point to find deals for, um, flights and hotels.

You cannot directly book your trip through Kayak's app, so the benefit here is that the app aggregates data from hundreds of travel providers so you can comparison shop. The Kayak app pulls from major travel search sites such as Orbitz, Travelocity and Expedia, as well as directly from airlines.

Start by searching for hotels or flights by location and date of travel. Once you’ve found a price that is right for you, you can click the link that will direct you to the booking site. Or you can call the number listed.

This app is best used as a comprehensive contact manager for airlines or hotels, but you can also track price trends to determine the best times to travel if your schedule is flexible.

For frequent travelers, the free Kayak will come in handy.
